I was just watching the highlights from the last V8 Supercars race and, I think since they aren’t racing at COTA anymore, they need to run a race in the US at a NASCAR oval track.
If you have no idea what V8 Supercars is, it is an Australian race series. The cars look very close to their street counterparts. Not like NASCAR close, actually close, the bodies of the cars are stretched or shrunk to fit onto the spec chassis the series uses but, looks wise they are very close to street cars. Per the rules they have to maintain the factory headlights and taillights which work and they race at night and use them. The racing is awesome, I would love to see them on an oval. If for no other reason, just to make NASCAR at least think, “Hey, our cars could be way cooler and our racing way better.”
Here’s a highlight video from last year:
I don’t know why they aren’t running at COTA this year, if it was a commercial failure, or the teams just didn’t feel like coming to the US. This should happen though.
They should run a shorter course 1 1/2 mile or less, no super speedways. They could keep the cars mostly as they run now, just change out the springs to get the cars a little more left turn friendly. Have them run on a Saturday as a support race for the Sprint Cup cars and see what happens. I think the show could be way better than NASCAR.

Conversely, NASCAR should run on more road courses.

Yes, 10,000x yes. I am actually looking forward to the road courses this year. I really hope it rains, I want to see NASCAR rain tire it up.

One of my favorite series. Australian V8 supercars are what the pirelli world challenge could be if it ever grows up. It might be fun to see the V8s run on an oval once in a while but my interest in the series lies in the fact that it has a NASCAR mentality on the road circuit run by cars that are designed that way.

Honestly if V8SC were to run on an oval it’d be almost exactly the same as NASCAR, just with differet cars. Only reason why V8SC is as awesome as it is is because you get tons of sideways and two wheel action as well as actual battles between the drivers due to the road courses.

I don’t think it would, I also don’t think it would be as cool as Supercars on a road course. But, NASCAR car’s are so left turn/oval centric they are almost impossible to drive in a straight line. Supercars aren’t designed to run on ovals. Just having the cars out of their element would make it much more exciting.
Maybe, I just want NASCAR car’s to be more realistic. That might solve my dilemma.

Very true, maybe NASCAR just needs to go back to cars that are closer to the real car they are based on.

I think you’re onto something.

Nascar should run Bathurst!

That would be awesome, especially going up the mountain.
